Description: Online Instructor Suite is a set of applications designed to add interactivity to Web-based courses. The software is modular, meaning that instructors can add only features they want to their online courses. OIS was designed from the beginning to integrate with existing Internet content created with your preferred authoring software, but it will also allow you to create your web course from scratch using pre-defined templates and graphics.
OIS is an add-on to static web content that expands course web sites created with any web page authoring tool (such as Microsoft FrontPage, Netscape Composer etc..). Unlike other course management systems, OIS does not focus on content management or creation. Instead, it assumes that content creation can and should be done using the great variety of tools available in the market today, and focus on handling the dynamic components of a web based or web supported course.
OIS provides the basic components of a web course in modules that are added and operated separately, yet is integrated so all modules share the same class database that is handled by one special program, the OIS Course Manager. The suite is currently composed of six titles:
Course Manager: The "heart" of the software package, it controls the user database and general properties used by all other modules.
GradeA: The spreadsheet-based gradebook that is easy yet powerful. GradeA provides instructors with a flexible way to create online gradebooks.
UTest: UTest lets the instructor administer online tests easily. It packs an impressive array of features that provide flexibility and security to online tests.
Calendar: Important dates, announcements, test times, and other information can be shared among all members of a group or class using the calendar.
Forum: Asynchronous discussion forums that can be used to increase interactivity among students and the instructor.
DropBox: This module controls the upload and download area, where students can submit files.
